Temperatures are rising, which means that summer is here. If you’re looking to enjoy some worthwhile day trips around Philadelphia this summer, look no further! Here is a list of 10 of our favorite summer visits to enjoy this year — each just a short trip from Saint Joseph’s campus.

1. BARNES ARBORETUM AT SAINT JOSEPH’S UNIVERSITY

Merion, Pennsylvania

Located on the northern Merion campus of Saint Joseph’s University, the Barnes Arboretum features 12 acres of gorgeous grounds designed to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture. Visitors can enjoy a serene greenspace that is designated for quiet reflection and personal decompression, and a chance to enjoy the beauty of nature. Hours and tickets are available here.

2. WISSAHICKON VALLEY PARK

Wissahickon Valley Park contains more than 1,800 acres of easily accessible parkland in Northwest Philadelphia. Visitors can expect miles of wooded and winding trails for biking, hiking and sightseeing. Be sure to bring a camera! The views are breathtaking and there are many hidden bridges and walkways to explore. Plan your visit here.

3. SUBARU PARK

Located just five miles south of the Philadelphia International Airport, Subaru Park is home to the Philadelphia Union soccer club. With views of the Delaware River, stadium visitors can expect stunning views and a great time in one of the many in-stadium restaurants. 4. GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE

Frequently called one of the most unique attractions on the east coast, Grounds for Sculpture is a 42-acre landscape with over 300 unique sculptures that will bend minds and inspire creativity. 5. THE POCONOS

The Pocono Mountains are only about a two hour drive from Hawk Hill, and yet it feels like another world. The four-county region offers year-round fun and a wide variety of resorts, family outings, outdoor activities and Airbnbs worth writing home about. With over 150 lakes and historic towns, the Poconos can offer a quiet and secluded getaway for two or an adventure-driven outing with friends and family. 6. THE JERSEY SHORE

It is safe to say that if someone lives near Philadelphia, they have spent some time on the New Jersey shoreline. With some beaches less than an hour from the city, “the shore” is an easily accessible coastline spanning 130 miles. From Ocean City to Avalon, each coastal town has its fair share of unique charm to enjoy. Pack the car and go for a day or rent one of the many Airbnbs or hotels for an extended vacation. 7. LANCASTER COUNTY

Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Located in South Central Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna River, Lancaster County has a rich history dating back to 1729. With multiple parks, trails and a downtown center, Lancaster County has plenty to do for any day-tripper or weekend getaway. The area also hosts a long list of live entertainment and events throughout the summer months that are worth checking out. Whether you prefer Amish markets and antiques or concerts and exploring new biking trails, Lancaster has it all. Plan your trip here.

8. DOWNTOWN MEDIA

State Street in Media, Pennsylvania, is one of the best kept secrets of the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Only 25 minutes from Saint Joseph’s campus the historic downtown has an assortment of locally owned businesses such as salons, ice cream and coffee shops and many options for food and drinks. The best nights to go, however, are Wednesdays between May and September when State Street is shut down and the local restaurants offer their annual Dining Under the Stars. 9. KENNETT SQUARE

Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Kennett Square is a historic town worth the one-hour ride from Hawk Hill. While the downtown area has restaurants and shops to explore, Kennett Square is also home to Longwood Gardens, multiple horse stables, wineries, antique stores and exciting events like their annual Mushroom Festival. 10. HERSHEY
